Peter Cahill, CFA, Partner is NorthPointe’s CIO and architect of the Large Cap Value strategy. Pete’s unquestioned ability to build and manage a consistent and adaptive active large cap strategy has been a cornerstone for the firm. His talents are not limited to the large cap space as he teams with the small cap portfolio managers in assessing risk and defining responsibility. Credibility is earned in the asset management business and Pete has certainly earned that from his peers. Pete came to NorthPointe from Loomis Sayles, where he served as Vice President and Director of Quantitative Research since 1997. Before joining Loomis, Pete worked for Bank of America for 5 years beginning in 1993. Pete received his BA from the University of Notre Dame and is a CFA Charterholder.
Mary C. Champagne, CFA, Partner is a long-standing partner of Jeff Petherick’s on the small/smid cap value team. Their partnership goes back to the early 1990’s when Mary joined Jeff at a prior employer to co-manage a very successful small cap value strategy. Together, they have successfully navigated several challenging market environments. Mary’s emphasis on looking to buy good companies at attractive valuations has been a mainstay at NorthPointe. Mary’s career as a small cap portfolio manager began in 1983 at NBD Bank. She left NBD to join Jeff Petherick as co-Portfolio Manager of the Loomis, Sayles Small Cap Value strategy in 1993. Mary earned a BA and MBA from Michigan State University and is a CFA Charterholder.
Michael P. Finkelstein, CFA, Partner joined us in 2002 and has been a solid contributor working closely on the small/smid cap value team. Over the years, Mike has developed a particular expertise in the healthcare space. His stock picks have contributed nicely to the alpha generated by the team. Mike’s willingness to challenge the status quo has helped to encourage a sense of conviction and clarity on the team. Prior to NorthPointe, Mike worked as an Equity Analyst for Strong Capital Management (2001) and developed a strong financial background working in Corporate Finance for Ernst & Young (1992-2000). Mike earned his BBA and his MBA from the University of Michigan. He is a CFA Charterholder.
John is our Director of Quantitative Research whose responsibilities include monitoring and improving our research models, supporting the fundamental stock pickers and portfolio managers with analysis and risk monitoring. John came to NorthPointe first as a college intern before becoming a full-time employee in 2011. He is a proud legacy of NorthPointe’s commitment to the Detroit community through our summer intern program. Eventually, John became Director of Quantitative Research in 2015. John earned his BA in Mathematics and Economics from Albion College and was recently awarded his CFA Charter.
Jeffrey C. Petherick, CFA, CIC, Partner is a founding partner and portfolio manager for many of NorthPointe’s value strategies. His passion for the business dates back to the mid-1980’s when as a junior analyst, he convinced his superiors to let him launch a small cap equity strategy. Since then, Jeff’s competitive drive and singular determination to deliver consistent and competitive investment results have become an example for everyone at NorthPointe Capital. Over the years, Jeff’s knowledge of the financial and energy sectors has been invaluable to the success of the small/smid value portfolio strategies. Jeff began managing small cap value portfolios in 1993. Jeff began his investment career at Masco Corporation as a manager of pension investments. He left Masco to launch a small cap value strategy at Loomis, Sayles. Jeff earned his BA at Albion, his MBA at the University of Michigan and is a CFA Charterholder.
